Japanese-style painter, illustrator. Lived in Tokyo. First learned woodblock printing from Taiso Yoshitoshi, then studied Japanese-style painting with Watanabe Shotei. Also studied decoration of ceramic. Member of the Nihon Bijutsu Kyokai and Nihon Bijutsuin, frequently serving as a juror for these groups. Among his pupils were Ikeda Terukata, Ikeda Shoen, and Kaburagi Kiyokata. Painted genre subjects in a modified ukiyo-e manner with Shijo-style background.
